Dimeji Bankole denies plan to defect to ACN

 Dimeji Bankole

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, on Sunday ruled out the possibility of defecting from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party to the Action Congress of Nigeria.

Bankole made the denial following the speculations that he and 70 other members of the PDP in the lower house were contemplating dumping the PDP for ACN.

The Speaker, who spoke with reporters shortly after accompanying Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State to attend a Christmas service at the Rev. Mellor Methodist Cathedral Church, Agbowa, Sagamu, also predicted total victory for the PDP in the 2011 general elections.

Responding to journalists’ questions on his plan to defect, Bankole simply retorted, “Me? ACN koo, ACN ni.”

He said the PDP would perform well at the forthcoming election in spite of the challenges confronting the party.

He described the crisis in the Ogun State chapter of PDP as “a challenge that has been overcome,” and expressed confidence that the party was now more formidable than before.

Earlier in his remark, Daniel commended the Speaker for giving a good account of himself in piloting the affairs of the House of Representatives.

The governor, who also spoke on the virtues of Christmas, urged Nigerians to demonstrate love, unity and work for the stability of the nation.

The joint attendance of Daniel and Bankole is considered by some political observers as an indication that the state PDP is putting its house in order ahead of the 2011 poll.
