Taribo hits Lagos, Abuja with Football Talent Hunt

The myriad of football talent hunt programmes in the country is already getting the would-be stars dizzy but that has not stopped more ex-internationals from toeing that path.
Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Emmanuel Amuneke, Samson Siasia, and a few others, all run talent hunt programmes with  similar purpose – discovering talents with promises to  help  them secure good deals with European clubs.
Last Friday, in Festac Town, Lagos,  ex-Super Eagles’ defender,  Taribo West, joined the growing list of future stars discoverers, by introducing  Future Stars Football Talent Hunt with Taribo West.  West was upbeat about the prospects of the programme which he said he will handle as the Team Manager, with support from  former Super Eagles’ goalkeeper-trainer Alloy Agu and another ex- international, Emmanuel Amuneke, alongside scouts from outside the country.
“We had to postpone the kick-off date to January 2011 because we wanted the scouts from Europe to be around. I can assure millions of Nigerians who are interested in this project that it is not a one-off thing.
‘’It will continue for a long time and we hope to discover talents who would make Nigeria and Africa proud. If you look at the FIFA ranking of players today, even in CAF, hardly will you see a Nigerian player in the top four positions. We intend to change situations like this and take football to the next level in Nigeria,” West said.
The former Inter Milan strong man said the programme was borne out of the need  to replace aging players. ‘’Today, we  need urgent well- articulated programmes that will focus on youth football development, aimed at discovering and nurturing young talents.’’
