15-year-old wins America's Top Young Scientist

Liam McCarty, 15, demonstrates his prototype wound closure system on a sponge wrapped around a bottle, as part of a series of innovation challenges for which he was named "America's Top Young Scientist" in the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge in New York, Oct 5, 2010. The ninth grader who attends Brookfield Academy in Brookfield, Wisconsin, won $50,000 in US Savings Bonds ($25,000 cash value).
