Kola Abiola’s sorrows

Abiola
It is not sufficient to say that these are certainly not interesting times for Kola, the eldest son of the late symbol of democracy, Chief MKO Abiola.

In the last three years, the soft spoken look alike son of the now deceased billionaire businessman has had to contend with one form of bereavement or the other.

First, it was his daughter, Omolabake, who quietly exited this realm. Only 17, the teenage beauty was the product of his union with his long-time sweetheart and wife.

The young lady passed on in a most shocking manner in the United Kingdom after having previously shown no signs of ill health. Her death dealt Kola a serious blow and just as he was recovering from its effects, his brother-in-law and socialite, Ladi Williams, suffered cardiac seizure and died on arrival from a trip to Abuja.

Last weekend, the mother of his deceased daughter, Olayinka Abiola, nee Williams, succumbed to death in faraway Los Angeles where she was holidaying with her husband and three year-old only surviving daughter. Her unexpected demise sent shock waves down the spine of those who are conversant with her charming persona.

It is widely believed that she never quite recovered from the death of her daughter and brother, which occurred in quick succession and she may have borne this grief till death came calling.

Her mother, Bose Onileere, was one of Lagos‘ most celebrated merchants and was extremely popular in the social circle in her lifetime.

Her death leaves Kola with one wife, the Edo State born Arafat whom he wedded many years ago at a stately ceremony.
