The Chairman, Presidential Taskforce on Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, has said that the Power Holding Company of Nigeria will soon wind down operations.

He said the winding down would, however, not affect the workers, as they would be absorbed by the 18 successor companies already in existence.

According to him, “PHCN has to wind down soon. It doesn’t mean the workers will go away. It is just that it will no longer be the headquarters of power. The 18 successor companies will absorb the workers of PHCN.”

The committee chairman, who spoke against the backdrop of the planned power retreat, which is expected to host experts across the world in Abuja this week, also said that the delay in the disbursement of arrears to electricity workers was due to the verification exercise to ensure that ghost workers were not paid.
