Between October 26 and 29, the serene city of Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory will bob and weave with a celebration of a different hue. On those days, the Nigerian movie industry will temporarily relocate to Abuja for the seventh edition of the Abuja International Film Festival themed, “Celebrating Naija @ 50 through Cinema.”

Significantly, this year’s festival has shifted base from its traditional home, the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre to the prestigious Silverbird Galleria, Abuja where films will be screened at purpose-built cinema halls to create a real cinematic experience.

The coordinator of the festival, Fidelis Duker, says the AIFF will look at Nigeria’s cinematic evolution in the last 50 years, its ups and downs and proffer solutions and suggestions on the way forward. According to Duker, this year’s event has attracted entries from over 50 countries with an attendance of over 6,000 participants being expected. “Some of the entries this year include Revenge (Brazil), Crab Trap (Columbia), Lost Times (Hungary), My House is Cloudy (Iran) and In a Revenge Zone (Iran).”
