SMVA: Taking stock before the rains

About a month to the third edition of the Soundcity Music Video Awards holding in Lagos, the brain behind the awards, Mr. Tajudeen Adepetu, reflects on the road so far, writes AKEEM LASISI When he was a radio jingle producer, Tajudeen Adepetu, popularly called TJ, had a wide opportunity to meet a lot of artistes - established and up and coming ones. Apart from getting stuck with many of them, the experience provided him an opportunity to appreciate their potential and needs. Most of the steps he has thus been taking as an entrepreneur, especially on the platform of his Consolidated Media Ltd., have been directed at edifying the artistes that dot the length and breadth of the country.

Stressing this point, the chief executive officer of the company that focuses on producing and syndicating programmes across the country does not appear to be beating his chest for nothing. He recalls that Soundcity, which is one of Consolidated Media’s prime brands, and whose coming on stream revolutionised musical video culture in Nigeria, has been very faithful and considerate in its desire to give artistes maximum exposure. According to him, Soundcity does not ask for any form of payment from artistes to air their videos.
