THE Federal Capital Territory Administration is set to train 200 physically-challenged persons at its Bwari Rehabilitation Centre.
The move is geared towards thinning down the high number of street traders in the Territory, and also empowering those trained.
The FCT Secretary for Social Development, Mrs. Blessing Onuh disclosed this while inspecting the rehabilitation centre located near the Bwari Law School.
The Secretary who expressed satisfaction at the level of renovation that has taken place at the centre, commended the FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed and the FCT Minister of State, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade. She noted that they are very committed to restoring the  lost glory  of the centre.
She further disclosed that the physically-challenged would be trained in vocational skills  such as tailoring, welding, computer operation, upholstery. Onuh said the bulk of those to be trained would be the physically-challenged beggars to be taken off  Abuja streets.
The FCT  Secretary, however, added that those who choose not to undergo the training would taken  to their respective states of origin, stressing that begging is outlawed in Abuja.
The Principal of the centre, Comrade Bala Tsoho who could not hide his joy over the renovation of the centre, lamented that it  had been abandoned since the exit of Malam Nasir el-Rufai whose administration initiated and commissioned it.
He called on physically challenged people in the FCT to avail themselves of the opportunity and get trained in skills that will make them useful to themselves and the society at large.
Most facilities at the centre which include collapsed fence, toilets, blown-off roofs as well as fish ponds have all been renovated.
The centre is ready to commence full operation.
