Why corruption will keep rising, by ICPC boss

Justice Ayoola, Chair, ICPC

SHOULD Nigerians fail to embrace total transformation, the level of corruption would rise by the time the country clocks 100years, Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) Chair Justice Emmanuel Ayoola predicted Wednesday.
Ayoola expressed this fear in a paper he presented at the third Niger State Productivity and Honours Award, in Minna Wednesday.
The paper was titled: "Integrity and the fight against corruption in the public service in the next 50 years".
Ayoola said: "Alarmist as it may sound, unless we embrace the total transformation option, the fight against corruption may go on for the next 50 years without making much impact on the lack of integrity which is at the root of corruption.
"The last 50 years of our Independence has, however, witnessed a gradual but remarkable decline from the ideals and values of yesteryear and it is sad that after Independence the issue of corruption continues to be at the top of our national agenda and that we should now be discussing corruption, rather than celebrating momentous achievement."
