Record of tourists hits new high in Golden Week

Tourist numbers throughout China during the National Day "Golden Week" have hit new records.

The scenic sites throughout China received 254 million tourists and the gross of tourist incomes in the Golden Week reached 116.6 billion yuan, increasing by 27.1 percent and 32.4 percent, respectively compared to the level of same period last year, and the expenditure per capita was 459 yuan, according to the data released on Oct. 8 by China's National Holiday Office and collected by the National Tourism Administration and the State Statistics Bureau.

China's railway system carried a record number of passengers during the holidays. The delivery volume for the first time surpassed 8 million passengers in single day. The number of railway passengers increased by nearly 9.1 million, reaching 63.6 million, up 24 percent.

The report from the Civil Aviation Administration of China showed that the number of travelers grew faster than the number of flights, which were up about 24 percent and 5.3 percent, respectively, from the same period last year. More than 39,000 Chinese flights carrying 57.5 million passengers took off over the seven-day holiday.
