United Kingdom and China  on Tuesday said they  would send representatives to Nigeria’s 50th independence celebrations.
The  British High Commission said in a statement by its Communication  Manager, Mr. Adewale Adebajo, that the Duke of Gloucester, Prince  Richard, would represent The Queen and the UK. The statement said he  would be in Nigeria from September 28-October 3, adding that a warship  would also take part in some activities with the Nigerian Navy.
Adebajo  added that “as part of his visit to Nigeria, HRH The Duke of Gloucester  KG GCVO will also undertake official engagements in both Lagos and  Abuja.”
According to the statement, “As part of the United  Kingdom’s contribution to Nigeria’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations, HMS  OCEAN will visit Lagos and take part in the Presidential Fleet Review  and undertake other naval training activities.’
Xinhua  news agency reports that Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Jiang Yu,  told newsmen in Beijing that the Minister of Industry and Information  Technology, Li Yizhong, would attend the celebrations scheduled from  September 30 to October 2.
