Virgin Atlantic plane hits pole at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

A London-bound Virgin Atlantic plane on Tuesday hit a pole with one of its wings, as it was taxiing to take off at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

This forced the airline to ground the plane.

Details of the incident could not be ascertained as at press-time but THE PUNCH learnt that an obstruction on the tarmac made the airport’s authorities to direct airplanes to take off through an alternative taxi way around the domestic terminal.

But the representative of Virgin Atlantic in Nigeria, Mr. John Adebanjo, said the airline decided to ground the flight for safety reasons. He said the taxi way the pilot was directed to was probably too narrow for the aircraft.
