Celebrated Nigeria author, Prof. Chinua Achebe, has lamented the waste of opportunities available to the country since independence.
Achebe, who spoke in an interview on the British Broadcasting Service programme, Focus on Africa, on Friday, said he fekt frustrated at the missed opportunities.
He said Nigeria had a very interesting beginning, when there were a “lot of expectations about it was going to fare and how good things would become. Our freedom and independence was very real to us. Unfortunately, it has not worked out that way.”
Asked to apportion blame for the situation, he said there was enough to go around, adding that thsoe who had been in position of leadership since independence “must take the fundamental blame for what has happened.”
