Glamour, as International Style Week debuts in Lagos

THE much advertised International Style Week 2010 (ISW) event held last weekend in Lagos at the premises of Nu Grotto, an exclusive club lounge on Etim Inyang Crescent, Victoria Island.
The hallmark of the event was the daily fashion shows that held every evening. It was a chance for designers to showcase their 2011 collections to a select audience of fashion lovers and industry professionals.
The event was opened by Zukki Afro on Thursday night with a collection themed, “Sunshinerica” (Shine Africa). Earthy hues of jet black, burnt gold/sun yellow and green were dominant. According to Azuka Echekoba, managing director of Zukki, ‘Sunshinerica’ is her emotional descriptive word for Africa, “Our resilience, strength, dominance and power.” It is also her word for revival, reawakening, spark, vitality of Africa’s designers.
It was quickly followed by De Image Creations. De Image Creations’ Temilola Williams, who usually turns out a unisex collection, emphasised women’s wear. She worked with Ankara mixed with taffeta, French lace and other fabrics. The clothes displayed, according to her, can be worn for any occasion, from dinner to wedding parties, among others.
