Why are women being used as guinea pigs for facial fillers?

More than 1.25 million people in the UK will have a non-surgical procedure this year in a market worth £1.7billion
Anna Macintyre used to be a confident woman. These days the 43-year-old marketing manager from Essex holds her hand over her mouth when she talks. Two years ago she decided to plump up her lips with a dermal filler.
Her lips were overfilled, which stretched the skin and led to red veins above her top lip.
'I can't believe that I destroyed my looks trying to look better,' she says. Unfortunately, she has no idea what she was injected with.
This is no isolated case  -  for although there are 147 injectable fillers available in the UK, only seven of these have the approval of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). According to the latest figures from Mintel, more than 1.25 million people in the UK will have a non-surgical procedure this year in a market worth £1.7billion.
