Farida Waziri, product of Governors’ Forum, cannot prosecute corrupt governors – Fawehinmi

Fawehinmi
Son of the late Lagos lawyer and human rights activist (Gani Fawehinmi), Mohammed, bares his mind on issues of national security, anti-graft campaign and the withdrawal of Senior Advocate of Nigeria award from former Attorney-General of the Fedration, Michael Aondoakaa, in an interview with AKINWALE ABORISADE What is your reaction to the Nigeria Bar Association position on withdrawal of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria title from former Attorney General of the Federation, Michael Aondoakaa?

I am in support of the Legal Practice Privileges Committee for suspending the title of SAN given to Aondoakaa. I think the NBA should look inwards and let us know what that NBA stands for. I was of the belief that the president of NBA, Mr. Joseph Daudu, was a revolutionary when he passed a comment about Ibrahim Babangida. But there should be no favouritism. Aondoakaa misguided Nigerians for more than seven months. As an Attorney-General, you are first among equals. You are meant to guide us as to the state of affairs within the framework of the law. Aondoakaa could have advised the Senate or the National Assembly on putting Goodluck Jonathan there to act in Yar‘Adua‘s stead. He made the most useless statement telling us that Yar‘Adua can rule from anywhere. Aondoakaa displayed his lack of intelligence and intellectual capacity as a lawyer. The LPPC looked upon it as an insult to Nigerians, not just as an insult to the NBA. I recommend that Aondoakaa should be prosecuted. The first indigenous lawyer in this country, Sapara Williams, said a lawyer lives for the direction of his people and the advancement of the cause of his country. How are we going to do that if we put someone like Aondoakaa there to start misleading the country?
