Governor Rotimi Amaechi
Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has apologised to members of the National Youth Service Corps serving in the state over the abduction of five of their colleagues in Omuma, their place of primary assignment.
Amaechi tendered his apology on Thursday at the passing-out ceremony of the 2009 Batch ‘C’ corps members in Port Harcourt.
Describing the kidnapping of the five corps members, who were released 21days after, as a sad development, the governor noted that proper security measures had been put in place to prevent a recurrence of such act.
He said, “You know Omuma is in the boundary between Rivers and Abia State and most of the people from that area are business people.
But pitifully, they decided to extend their business in a bad and shameful way by kidnapping our corps members.”
He, however, declared automatic employment for the best corps member of the batch in the state, Mr. Aborisade Adetola, for his outstanding contributions in Etche Local Government Area where he served.
