As Nigerian Idol officially kicked off last week, with a star-studded media launch and judges unveil, the countdown has already started and everyone can’t wait to see who the next idol would be. In the music industry, winners of the Idols talent competition are held in high regard because they are seen as artistes who are versatile, brilliant, energetic and articulate.
Some of the past Idols include; Reuben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, Kelly Clarkson and others.
In West Africa, Timi Dakolo and Omawumi are amazing products of the first Idol in the sub-region in 2008 and their careers have grown in leaps and bounds since then.
This year Dakolo won Recording of the Year at Hip Hop World Awards 2010, while Omawumi is already a best selling recording artiste, winning awards including HHWA, NEA and others.
No other music talent competition has produced more stars in the world than the Idols franchise. Even the runners-up have gone to be successful artistes.
We shouldn’t expect anything less this year as a matter of fact we should be expecting more. With Jeffery Daniels, Yinka Davies and Audu Maikori serving as judges the bar has been set even higher.
“I love Nigeria, I have always loved Nigeria and I think Nigerian Idol is a good way to reach out to singers who want to go international” Jeffery Daniel says.
