Niger State Governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu
There were strong indications on Friday that the 2011 presidential aspirations of the formal military dictator, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, and President Goodluck Jonathan have thrown the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party in Niger State into disarray.
Our correspondent learnt that the confusion in the state stemmed from the fear of the possible consequences which might result from making an official declaration in support of one of the aspirants.
The governor of the state, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, is said to be caught up in the difficult political web as his second term bid is reported to be largely dependent on how he is able to wriggle out of the current political calculation.
It was learnt that Aliyu would not want to offend IBB, who is from the state and is believed to be a major force in deciding the political sharing formula in the state.
Besides IBB posing a serious threat to Aliyu’s second term bid, it was gathered that the two were genealogically related.
