While many were not paying attention, comedy powerhouse, Bright Okpocha renowned as Basketmouth, sneaked into Festac, Lagos, with a handful of friends in tow, to traditionally ask for his longtime lover and mother of his son, Elsie Uzonma‘s hands in marriage.
Of course, the bride‘s parents were too glad to give their daughter to a young man who has made good in the humour business. They were even gladder seeing the number of entertainers that came with their son-in-law, turning the Uzonmas‘ Festac home into a theatre of fun and laughter.
The couple was pronounced husband and wife at the Ikoyi Registry on Wednesday. The church wedding proper takes place on Saturday.
The dreadlocked comedian has every reason to seek marital sanctuary and ecstasy. In less than a decade, Basketmouth has evolved into a premium comedy brand with endorsement deals from multinational companies and a long list of corporate clientele. His publicists, Bigsam Media, told E-Punch, “Basketmouth‘s multi million naira Globacom ambassadorship was recently renewed for another two years. This is a further confirmation of what we have always known about this unique comedy brand. He continues to reinvent his art which the world saw in his hugely successful Lord of the Ribs concert. There is more to come from him in due course.”
