"Yes, we are excited to confirm that they are engaged," Simpson's rep said Sunday.
The Dukes of Hazzard star flashed her engagement ring for the first time Saturday during an in-store appearance at Dillard's in Kansas City.
Simpson, 30, and Johnson, 31, have been nearly inseparable since they were introduced by friends back in May.
This will second marriage for both stars. Johnson, a former NFL player, finalized his divorce from stylist Keri Johnson earlier this year, while Simpson split with ex Nick Lachey in 2005 after three years of marriage.
As fate would have it, Lachey recently got engaged to longtime girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo - news that Simpson toasted when she spoke to Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show last week.
"I am extremely, extremely happy for him," she said. "Our relationship was over a really long time ago, and it would be nice if everyone could move on with us and really just celebrate the love between him and Vanessa. I do, and I wish them nothing but the best."
Johnson last played for the New Orleans Saints in 2007. Prior to that, the tight end starred for the San Francisco 49ers for six seasons.
