President Goodluck Jonathan
PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has canvassed for public-private partnership initiative in the culture and tourism industry as a means of solving some of the country’s problems.
Jonathan, who spoke on Tuesday at the 2010 National Festival for Arts and Culture programme in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, said that NAFEST over the years had done a lot in upholding the unity of the nation as well as spreading the message of good value.
The president said, “Much as we have the problem of youth unemployment, rural and urban poverty in our land, which many government policies have been put in place to tackle over the years, time is now ripe for the public and private sector to explore the great prospects that were bound in our cultural industries in alleviating poverty and diversifying our revenue base.”
He explained that the theme of the 2010 NAFEST which was on “Cultural Industry and Economy Empowerment” was carefully chosen in order to ensure that culture could be used as an alternative tools to diversify the country’s mono-cultural economy with a view to creating sustainable wealth that would empower the teeming youths.
