The fastest rising search in Nigeria for the month of October was the Diversity Visa lottery 2012, Google said in a statement on Monday.
The DV lottery is the American Diversity Visa lottery that is popularly known as the green card lottery.
The programme designed by the American government allows natives of other countries who meet certain eligibility requirements to gain immigrant visas to the United States.
The online registration began on October 5, 2010 and ended on November 3, 2010.
According to Google, the search emerged tops as thousands of hopefuls flocked to the Internet to find the website, apply online and also get the results of the 2011 lottery.
Nimbuzz, which offers free calls, chat and messaging, followed closely as the fifth rising search after the visa lottery showing the continuing popularity of social networking in Nigeria.
”We are noticing a definite shift from paper applications to online, for a lot of applications and processes in Nigeria. The Internet is increasingly becoming integrated into our lives as more and more application are done online,” Google Nigeria Officer, Mrs. Lola Masha, said.
