Former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode
The re-arraignment of a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, before a Federal High Court in Lagos was on Monday stalled following the appeal of the ex-minister against the decision of the Court of Appeal in Lagos over admission of a document.
The accused person is challenging the decision of the Court of Appeal before the Susprme Court which directed the Federal High Court in Lagos to admit his computer printout statement of account as exhibit.
At the resumed hearing of the case on Monday before Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako (who is now handling the matter), the case could not proceed on the grounds of Fani-Kayode’s appeal before the apex court, Justice Ahmed Mohammed had previously handled the case before he was transferred from Lagos Division of the FHC.
In his seven grounds of appeal before the Supreme Court, Fani-Kayode is asking the apex court to hold that the Justices of the Court of Appeal misdirected themselves and committed grave miscarriage of justice by directing that the statement of account should be admitted as exhibit in the matter.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had arraigned the ex-minister on a 47-count charge of N230m alleged money laundering.
The case has been adjourned till December 15.
