A senior lecturer at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Dr Okey Ikeanyibe, and four others have been sentenced to three months imprisonment for contempt of court.
Police and other security agents have, however, mounted a nationwide manhunt for the four men, following their disappearance from court shortly before the judgment.
An Anambra high court sitting at Ekwulobia, presided over by Justice B. A. Nwankwo handed down the sentence on Monday for disobeying the order of the court.
Dr. Ikeanyibe, a native of Isuofia in Aguata Local Government Area of the state, will serve the sentence along with Chief Samuel Nwankwo, Chief C.A.C. Ifedioranma, Gregory Oragunye and Sebastine Aguina, who are all from the same community with the don.
The contempt application was contained in a motion with number AG/11M/2010, which was brought against them by Deacon Remigius Ezeifediba, also a native of the community, following a suit No. AG/5/2010.
Justice Nwankwo ordered that they be committed to prison for three months without an option of fine.
The men are all members of the Isuofia Community Caretaker Committee set up earlier in the year by the Anambra State government to, among other things, organise an election into the town union executive.
