A Nigerian, Iyiobi Ifeanyi, was detained on Monday at the Thai-Cambodian border province of Sa Kaeo with 367 grammes of heroin, valued at $47,000, according to Thai police officials.
Ifeanyi was arrested in Thailand’s Aranyaprathet district on the Cambodian border after security agents suspected that he had ingested some banned substances.
Bangkok Post reports that the 38-year-old Nigerian was arrested by police and army rangers when they discovered that he had an unstamped passport, further checks revealed that he had stomach lining protector pills, raising suspicion that he might have ingested some illegal drugs.
He was later taken to Aranyaprathet Hospital for an x-ray, which revealed over 20 packages of suspicious objects.
Consequently, he was directed to a toilet to excrete objects and the officers found 26 packages of heroin weighing 367 grammes and having an estimated street value of $47,000.
Ifeanyi had reportedly claimed that he flew from Cameroun to Cambodia and then swallowed the drug packages, saying that he smuggled heroin into Thailand through the Cambodian border town of Poi Pet to deliver it to his customers in Bangkok.
